Federation of Independent Filmmakers

The Federation of Amateur Film Clubs in Poland was founded on December 01, 1956 by amateur filmmakers from all over Poland. In 1957, at a congress in Rome, the Polish Federation was accepted into the UNICA World Film Union.

Federation of Independent Filmmakers:

  • is a non-state association of filmmakers and filmmakers produced for non-commercial purposes;
  • brings together individual members regardless of film club affiliation;
  • is a member of the International Union of Independent Film (UNICA) affiliated with UNESCO (nearly 40 countries from around the world belong to UNICA);
  • Supports independent filmmaking by promoting artistic works: mature, valuable documentaries, animated films, experimental films;
  • inspires and maintains international contacts, strives for cultural exchanges of film people from all over the world – special care surrounds young talents interested in filmmaking, and is also a kind of cadre base for professional film;
  • provides an opportunity to interact with independent film enthusiasts at home and abroad and to meet filmmakers and film critics;
  • enables participation in national and numerous international competitions and festivals, including the largest event of independent cinema – the UNICA World Festival;
  • Helps you gain the knowledge and skills necessary to master the filmmaking craft;
  • allows free subscription to the Federation’s quarterly magazine “Independent Cinema,” use of the film archive (Film Clubs can use the UNICA film archive located in Switzerland, which has more than half a thousand films from 1935 – 98) and participation in film seminars and workshops organized with the participation of well-known and prominent representatives of the film profession.
