The Polish Film Institute (“PISF”) operates on the basis of the Act of June 30, 2005 on cinematography (the “Cinematography Act”). as well as the statute introduced by the Order of the Minister of Culture of September 2, 2005 on granting the statute to the Polish Film Institute.
According to Articles 7(1) and 10(1) of the Law on Cinematography, PISF is a state legal entity supervised by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The Institute was established to carry out the tasks of state policy in the field of cinematography listed in Article 8 of the Cinematography Act, including subsidizing undertakings in the field of preparation of film projects, production of films, distribution of films and their dissemination, promotion of Polish filmmaking and dissemination of film culture, including production of films undertaken by Polish communities.
The PISF provides funding for cinematographic projects and awards financial support to audiovisual productions – in the form of grants, counted as sources of public funding – on the basis of:
– the Law of June 30, 2005 on cinematography;
– the Law of November 9, 2018 on financial support for audiovisual production.
