On March 21, 1994, a meeting of cinematographers was held in Warsaw. As a result, it was decided to establish the Polish Society of Cinematographers. The founding committee consisted of Witold Adamek, Paweł Edelman, Sławomir Idziak, Andrzej J. Jaroszewicz, Zdzisław Kaczmarek, Grzegorz Kędzierski, Maciej Kijowski, Dariusz Kuc, Jacek Petrycki, Krzysztof Ptak, Artur Reinhart, Wiesław Rutowicz, Piotr Sobociński, Witold Sobociński, Jerzy Wójcik and Wiesław Zdort.
The objectives of the Association from the very beginning were primarily to represent the interests of cinematographers (in particular, by protecting copyright), to provide comprehensive conditions for the professional development and improvement of the qualifications of its members, to support initiatives aimed at the development of the art of cinematography, and to popularize issues related to the art of cinematography.
